For the first time since 2022, a Christmas tree has shone in Borodyanka.

For local residents, this is more than festive lights – it is a symbol that life has returned. After more than 800 destroyed and damaged objects, after painful photos of Shevchenko, cut by debris, the community was able to rebuild, rise and welcome guests again.

Today, the Borodyanka Village Council is not only recovering – it supports others. As a participant in the project “Side by Side: United Communities”, it shares its experience of resilience with those who are currently experiencing the most difficult times.

At the invitation of KOVA, children from frontline communities came to Borodyanka. These are children from the Vilhuvatsk territorial community, Balakliya city council and Chuhuyiv city council of the Kharkiv region, students from schools of the Vysokopil community of the Kherson region, as well as schoolchildren from the Primorska, Kyrylivka and Novobohdanivka communities of Zaporizhzhia. They visited the children’s fair, took part in quizzes, received gifts for St. Nicholas Day – and together lit the New Year tree.

These sincere smiles and joyful laughter warmed Borodyanka as much as the festive lights.

We thank our partners who help create a holiday for our children even in times of war.

Borodyanka shows once again: when we stand side by side, the light always returns.
