At the URC2025 conference on Ukraine’s recovery, the team behind the “Side by Side: Cohesive Communities” project presented a unique cohesion map. What makes it so special? Its uniqueness lies in the fact that it shows all 1,469 Ukrainian communities located in 24 regions of Ukraine.
Each conference participant could place their country’s flag on the map as a sign of support for a community with which they already have a partnership or plan to collaborate. Within a few hours, the map was filled with “evidence” of active cooperation with international partners and heart symbols as a sign of dedication and love for each Ukrainian community.
Our map became a visual testimony to how foreign partners from different countries are standing side by side to help, support, and achieve a common goal—the restoration of Ukraine.
The map of unity is about reciprocity, solidarity, and real action. It shows how many people and communities are united by one goal: not just to survive, but to rebuild a dignified, safe, and humane life. It also shows that we are not alone and can always count on the support of our friends and partners.
